National Windrush Day on Thursday 22 June 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the passengers of the Empire Windrush to the UK, a significant part of British history that everyone should be informed about.
On Saturday 17th June 2023 Bright Young Minds and follow local community organisations will be hosting the Windrush Heritage Festival celebration in Calthorpe Park, Edward Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham B12 9LF, starting at 12 noon - 5pm.
The event will recognise 75 special guest local Windrush generation residents with a high tea, guest speakers and live performances from Windrush Heritage Choir, steelpan players and other local artists.
Windrush Heritage Choir is a project delivered by Bright Young Minds, a registered UK Charity located in Birmingham, working with Black, BAME and vulnerable children, young people and families.
The choir is led by Clyde “JJ” Forde an established Artistic Director with over 30 years of experience conducting choir performances including The Sargents Cancer Appeal Concert at the Royal Albert Hall with over 500 singers and the BBC’s Children in Need.
JJ and his team are trained vocal coaches and experienced musicians.
